$245.00
Sold Out

Time: 10 am-Noon PST

Cost: $245/$196 for members

Class Level: All

This course comprises four weekly two-hour sessions aiming to unlock students who are shy about writing sensuality into their work, to lead them towards an understanding of the tools they possess within - the five senses - in conjunction with a sensory awareness of language, and hopefully to produce a submission-ready piece. The course is not specifically about writing sex, more of an infusion of sensuality into language, where there will be exercises on sensation and words, developing a scene, readings of established writers whose work involves sensuality, and basic techniques for producing the best story possible with your material - telling your story from the inside, decluttering your language, delivering a new truth to the reader, along with a raft of submission and rejection approaches.

Your Instructor: Catherine McNamara grew up in Sydney, ran away to Paris to write, and ended up in West Africa co-running a bar, working in Mogadishu and Milan along the way. Her short story collection The Cartography of Others was praised by Hilary Mantel, finalist in the People’s Book Prize (UK), and won the Eyelands International Fiction Prize (Greece). Love Stories for Hectic People came out in March 2021. Catherine is Flash Fiction Editor for Litro (UK) and hikes, grows cherries, and runs writing retreats in northeastern Italy.
