Dialogue can make or break a story. It can either be dynamic or stagnant. Creating effective dialogue takes time and practice, but it doesn’t have to be a chore. In this class, we will study the elements of great dialogue and practice writing our own. Please bring a story/pages of your work (with dialogue) if you have something to workshop. No worries if you don't. We'll practice writing as well.
Your Instructor: Your Instructor: Oksana Marafioti is the bestselling author of American Gypsy: A Memoir (FSG, 2012). Her writings have appeared in Rumpus, Slate, and Time magazines, literary journals The Fairy Tale Review and Pilgrimage, and in several anthologies. Oksana was the 2013 BMI - Library of Congress Literary Award Recipient. She was the 2018 U.S. Government-appointed literary ambassador to the Czech Republic and the 2020 recipient of the Picador Excellence in Literature Award from the University of Leipzig, Germany. She is the 2022 grant recipient of the Nevada Arts Council. A classically trained pianist, Oksana also holds a B.S. in Cinematography and an MFA in Creative Writing.
