Matisse DuPont has designed this workshop to help writers create more well-rounded characters of all genders and sexual orientations. Human gender and sexuality are more complex than our society allows for. Drawing from their scholarship in the field of Gender and Cultural studies, mixed with their love of character design for Dungeons and Dragons, and their experience as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Matisse will guide you through the tangled webs of human gender and sexuality and provide the resources you need to craft more relatable characters.

Your Instructor: Matisse DuPont is an educator, artist, and gender consultant based in Boston, MA. Matisse holds a Masters of Gender and Cultural Studies from Simmons University. They offer individual and institutional gender consultation services; the former being a personalized session to help a person understand gender — theirs or others — better, and the latter consisting of inclusivity consulting and cultural competency training concerning transgender, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Beyond this, they are a self-taught multi-media artist who flits between inky abstract art, drag, photography, videography, weaving on a loom, and most recently learning to create chainmaille jewelry. They are also an avid D&D player, playing in several campaigns and hosting a game here and there as a dungeon master (DM) for new and inexperienced players.

A voraciously curious and creative person, Matisse hopes to engender playful artistry, social change, and shared knowledge into every project and person they encounter.
