Many people think that you are either born funny or not, but most babies don’t know how to tell a good joke. Humorists and comedians work hard to develop their craft, and there are several humor-writing techniques that you can learn. This class will introduce writers new to humor writing to ways to lighten up their prose. Whether you are interested in using humor in fiction, nonfiction, short satire, social media posts, or are just looking to impress your pen pal, this class will give you the skills to get started. We will look at different examples of common humor writing techniques and then practice writing some of our own funny lines. We will also cover some common formats for short funny pieces and the basics of submitting them.
